Begin Lecture: How has media influenced our world with bad nutrition. Whenever we see a McDonalds commercial all we see are the smiles on everybody’s face, but we never attempt to think how bad this food is affecting our bodies. Why doesn’t media promote healthier diet commercials instead of always the same fast food. We see many commercials all over television of fast food ads, but what’s hidden are the calories that come with these foods. They are nowhere near nutritious, but yet we still eat them. Students should be informed on positive energy balance, where weight gain is a direct result of a greater caloric consumption than caloric expenditure. On the other hand, a negative energy balance occurs when there is a greater caloric expenditure than a caloric consumption which leads to weight loss. Hardee’s serves 1, 420 caloric burgers, while a Big Mac is 540 calories. I will explain to students that we only have one body, and the choice of foods we eat can affect the way we feel.
